My paddies, what’s new? So I have been home since March due to the Covid 19 issues, I work or rather worked in a school. Now my routine is basically being a ‘ housewife ‘ in its entirety so I get to watch TV shows a lot, as usual BBNAIJA is on. ( I am sure some of you are watching too)
I must say this group of housemates are quite ‘special’, if you are an avid follower I am sure by now you are familiar with Laycon, Nengi, Ozo, Dorothy, Kiddwaya, Lucy, Erica and Kaisha. I am going to be focusing on these few names for the purpose of my observations, before I digress, I want to state that my sure bet is on Laycon to win! The dude just does it for me.
Now, Laycon came to the house and the first impression on most people including the housemates was generally the fact that perhaps he was just an ‘average Joe’ until his intellectual abilities came to fore coupled with his musical talent; the guy knows his stuff and definitely not a walk over !
Kaisha for me is a day to day process, she is uniquely weird and sweet at the same time, she’s sometimes bullied by the housemates by she’s who she is, you have to take her one day at a time.
Dorothy, such a sweet soul, you can’t hate her, her smiles are everything, her sense of humour is top notch, yet in the ‘wrong’ company totally becomes a different person and might say the wrong things to the detriment of others, even the people she cares about.
Erica, I call her the baby of the house even though she’s older than some housemates, she’s Indecisive yet very polite. Kiddwaya is her weakness but that’s okay too!
Lucy, the say it as it is madam, strict, a perfectionist to the core, but has some inferiority and superiority complex. Truth is we all need a Lucy at some point in our lives!
Kiddwaya, a ”dadabee,” with no worries yet very relatable to everyone, flirts shamelessly, infact that’s his persona but you can’t love him less.
Nengi I so love her, there’s more to her than her body, she’s an enigma, she’s drawn to the men effortlessly yet she clearly sets her boundaries, she know what’s good for her or otherwise.
Ozo! Fine man with brains, definitely diplomatic and a politician. He’s driven yet will love ‘foolishly’ and follow his heart and not the head.
Now , all these housemates I have described above have at one point done or continuously take some decisions by thier words or deeds that viewers have not been happy and sometimed find repulsive whether they did so intentionally or not, however one person has continously attracted so much hate, vilification and ‘badmouthing.
So in my mind, I keep asking myself, does society set different STANDARDS by which people gets judged? Why is it that in most cases it’s WOMEN who judge thier fellow women the most!
Again, why is a WRONGDOING interpretated differently depending on who committed it? For instance, someone ‘makes out’ on National TV and they (he and she) don’t lashed on or at least treated trivially. Another person FLIRTS and LEAD MEN ON, and she is called a WHORE! suddenly her body becomes the subject of ridicule, FAKE ASS, SILICONE, FLIRT, LACKS TRAINING are some of the ”insults” she gets and as usual you know those who do the most, your guess is a sure bet!
Well, as baffled as I am, I do have some questions too, just maybe I am missing the point!!
1. What is flirting?
2. Can someone explain what it means to lead a man or woman on?
3. Is flirting, leading a man or woman on and making out (with or without sex ) the same?
I mean if by the definitions of the above questions makes them all ”WRONG”, then are some ”WRONGS” bigger or weightier?
In all this, I have learnt something; this life is not balanced at all, the world is full of DOUBLE STANDARDS. The things people do and get away with, others get severely punished for them and so it’s safe to say one is singularly responsible for oneself and by all means DO YOU!!
Maybe we need to OPEN and read the BOOK and not just judge by its cover sometimes, there’s usually more in it, Lastly, be uniquely You, the world will adjust…..
Somewhere in my mind, I am thinking of body enhancements and cosmetic surgery, but I will leave that for another day.
